🥄 How to Use Water Kefir Grains
-
Prepare the Fermentation Liquid
In a clean jar, combine 1–2 tablespoons of water kefir grains with 1–2 cups of sugar water (¼ cup sugar dissolved in water). Coconut water or diluted juice are also options. -
Ferment at Room Temperature
Cover loosely or with a breathable cloth, and ferment for 24–48 hours between 68–85°F (20–29°C). -
Strain & Flavor
After fermentation, strain out the grains. Add optional ingredients like ginger, citrus, or berries to enhance flavor. -
Bottle & Chill
Transfer to a sealed bottle and refrigerate. Consume within 1–2 weeks for the best taste. -
Reuse the Grains
Place the strained grains in a fresh batch of sugar water to start your next round. -
Store Between Batches
Need a break? Keep grains in sugar water in the fridge for short-term storage. -
Optional Second Ferment
Add extra fizz and flavor by bottling with fruit or juice for another 1–3 days at room temperature before chilling.
